Stone lifts Cobbers past women's hockey

Paige Stone netted an unassisted goal at 4:17 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie as Concordia defeated Hamline 3-2 Saturday night at Drake Arena.

After a Piper turnover in the defensive zone, Stone wristed a shot past Hamline goaltender Crystal Testolin. It was Stone's second goal of the season.

Hamline (1-4-2, 1-3-1 in the MIAC) grabbed a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. First-year Melanie Leveille scored her seventh goal of the season at 6:37 to give the Pipers a 1-0 lead.

Concordia (3-2-2, 2-2-1) answered on the power play with Alyssa Dahl's first goal of the season at 7:49. Hamline's Brianna Miller closed out the scoring in the first period with her third of the season at 10:37.

The Cobbers knotted the game at 2-2 in the second period on a Dahl short-handed goal at 8:47. 

The Pipers outshot in the Cobbers 23-22 in the contest. Cobber goaltender Amber Malcolm made 21 saves for the win. Testolin stopped 19 shots for the Pipers.

The two teams will square off Sunday afternoon at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
