Pipers complete sweep of Oles![]()
![]() ![]() The Pipers won the opening face-off, and controlled the puck for most of the first period, but it was the Oles who scored with less that two minutes to play in the first period, and entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead. Hamline’s Brianna Miller (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) erased the lead at 7:18 in the second, as Emily Dusold (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) and Davidson combined on the assists to tie the score. St. Olaf struck back half a minute later, scoring at 7:46 to take a one-goal lead for the second and final time. The Pipers didn’t even need a full minute to tie the game for the second time, as Melanie Leveille (So., Appleton, Wis.) scored, with Dusold tallying her second assist of the night, at 8:37. Davidson’s first goal gave Hamline their first lead of the game. The score came on a power play at 15:05 off of a pass from Amanda Finstad (So,. Waupun, Wis.). Davidson and the Pipers waited a full period’s worth of playing time to score again, when she scored an unassisted goal, which was ultimately the game-winner, off of a shot from the blue line at 16:38 in the third period. St. Olaf scored again at 17:01 to make it a 4-3 Hamline lead. Hamline’s Miller was sent to the penalty box for a roughing call at 18:33, and St. Olaf pulled their goalie to try to score on a two-skater advantage. St. Olaf sent a player of their own to the penalty box at 19:43 on a roughing penalty, but kept their goalie pulled to maintain a skater advantage on the ice. Hamline responded with a fifth goal when Kate Raasch (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) chased down a puck into the Oles’ zone and battled off two St. Olaf players to score an empty-netter with eight seconds remaining in the game. Hamline improves to 8-7-2, 3-5-2 MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 7-9-1, 4-5-1 MIAC. The series sweep was the first of the season for the Pipers. The Pipers return to the ice on Friday, February 1 as they travel to Bethel for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. |
