Pipers fall to Cardinals in first MIAC contest of '08

Hamline Hockey
Saint Mary's held on to a 1-0 lead generated by an even strength goal in the first five minutes of the game, and added an empty-netter, to defeat the visiting Hamline University women's hockey team 2-0 in Winona.

The game was the first MIAC game played since mid-December, and the opening game of a home-and-away series with Saint Mary's.

The Pipers attempted to send the game to overtime by pulling starting goalie goalie Crystal Testolin (Jr., Richardson, Texas) with 1:20 to play and a 1-0 game. However, with 11 seconds remaining on the clock, the Cardinals doubled their lead and defeated the Pipers.

Hamline falls to 6-7-1, 1-5-1 MIAC, while Saint Mary's improved to 3-8-1, 3-4-1 MIAC. The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. on Hamline's home ice at Drake Arena.
