Mickelson's four points lead Pipers over Oles

Sara Mickelson (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) had an assist on the first three Piper goals of the night before scoring one of her own to lead Hamline University to a 6-3 home win over St. Olaf College in MIAC women’s hockey action.

Emily DusoldThe Pipers kept pressure on the Oles for much of the opening period of play, scoring their first goal at 14:11. It was Brianna Miller’s (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) third goal of the season, with the lone assist going to Mickelson.

Mickelson then provided the lone assist on a goal from Alli Miller (Fy., Fairbault, Minn.) at 18:22 in the first.

After returning to the ice with a 2-0 lead, Hamline got the first goal in an explosive second period that decided the game. Alli Miller scored again at 3:02, once again on an assist from Mickelson. Shannon Griswold (So., Portland, Ore.) was also credited with an assist on the score. The Pipers took a 4-0 lead when Kate Raasch scored a power play goal t 3:51 from Emily Dusold (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) and Melanie Leveille (So., Appleton, Wis.).

The Oles answered with three straight goals, the first at 8:57 scored by Carolyn Sneep Fy., Nisswa, Minn.) from Katie Iraci (Fy., Park Ridge, Ill.). Meghan Stumpf (Fy., Oakdale, Minn.) then scored with assists credited to Tessa Christensen (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) and Iraci at 10:31. The final Ole goal came at 14:04, when Kim McClintick (So., Chaska, Minn.) scored a power play goal from Kari McClintick (So., Chaska, Minn.) and Katie Bennett (Sr., Edina, Minn.).

Hamline scored two more goals in the second period before the two teams played a scoreless final 20 minutes. Kesia Madryga (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) tallied her first goal of her collegiate career at 17:12 from Heather Ahlers (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) and Amanda Finstad (So., Waupun, Wis.). Mickelson then closed out the scoring at 19:35 from Finstad and Sophie Davidson (So., St. Paul, Minn.).

Hamline improved to 7-7-2, 2-5-2 MIAC with the win, while the Oles fell to 7-8-1, 4-4-1 MIAC. The same two teams meet again Kesia Madrygatomorrow, Sunday, January 27, at 1:45 p.m. in Northfield.
