Ahlers' three goals, one assist lead Piper women's hockey past Chatham![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the non-conference contest, Ahlers scored the first two goals of the game 10 minutes apart in the first period at 5:26 and 15:12. Alli Miller (Fy., Fairbault, Minn.) earned an assist on each goal, while Mindy Lein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) contibuted a second assist on the goal at 15:12. Chatham's first of two goals came just 15 seconds later when Allison Papko (Fy., Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored on assists from Sara Mayo (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and Jennifer Quimby (Sr., Rochester, N.H.). The final score of the opening period was a short-handed goal from the stick of Kate Raasch (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) as she tallied her fourth goal of the season. Raasch has now scored in the last four game the Pipers have played. The short-handed goal came with 11 seconds remaining on Brianna Miller's (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) penalty for interference, called at 15:31. The assist on Raasch's goal went to Marie Gross (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.). In the second period all of the scoring came from Hamline, as the Pipers added four more goals to bring the score to 7-1 after two periods. Alli Miller added a goal to her assist from earlier in the game, scoring at 2:34, with assists to Ahlers and Lein. Callisa Olynyk (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season at 9:03, with assists credited to Cortney Hansen (Jr., Ancorage, Alaska) and Mallory Steele (So., Rochester Hills, Minn.). Ahlers then finished off her hat trick with a goal at 14:48 on a pass from Melanie Leveille (So., Appleton, Wis.). Hamline's Amanda Finstad (So., Waupun, Wis.) finished off the third period scoring with an unassisted goal at 15:29. Leveille started the third the same way - with an unassisted goal at 4:47. She followed that up with her second goal of the game and her fourth of the season at 11:43. Raasch and Brianna Miller earned assists on the score. Chatham doubled their score with goal from Alexis Smith (Fy., Burlington, Ontario) with just over two minutes remaining in the game at 17:50, with an assist from Krystal Kelly (Stratford, Ontario). The Pipers' final goal came from Emily Dusold (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) nine seconds before the final horn sounded, with Sara Mickerlson (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) earning the assist. Seven different Pipers scored goals and 10 Pipers earned assists during the game. In all, 13 Pipers tallied points in the victory, which raised their record to 4-3-0, 0-2-0 MIAC. The Cougars dropped to 0-9-0, 0-4-0 ECAC. Hamline and Chatham will meet again on Friday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Drake Arena. |
