Pipers' victory earns split in Finlandia series![]()
![]() ![]() The Pipers’ scoring in Sunday’s game was started by sophomore Mallory Steele’s (So., Rochester Hills, Minn.) first goal of the season less than a minute into the game. Brianna Miller (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) was credited with the assist. Finlandia scored two goals within 15 seconds at 8:34 and 8:47 in the opening period to take the 2-1 lead, but the Pipers' Sara Mickelson (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) struck back to tie the score just 10 seconds later on an assist from Emily Dusold (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.). The Piper scoring resumed in the second period when Kate Raasch (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) scored on an assist from Alli Miller (Fy., Fairbault, Minn.). Sophie Davidson (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) added her second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season to bring the Pipers to the 5-2 lead, with Amanda Finstad (So., Waupun, Wis.) earning the first of her two assists on the night. Mickelson scored her second goal of the night on Finstad's second assist of the game with 15 seconds remaining in the game. Finlandia tallied one more goal four seconds later to bring the final score to 5-3. The Pipers improved to 3-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAC with the win. They host their first home game of the 2007-08 season in their conference opener as Gustavus comes to town on Friday, November 16. The puck is set to drop at 7:15 p.m. |
