Ahlers' six-point week leads to MIAC Hockey Athlete of the Week honor

Heather Ahlers' (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) productive week earned her recognition as the MIAC Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.

Last week, Ahlers tallied six points in helping the Pipers defeat visiting Chatham University 10-2 and 5-1 in a pair of games that book-ended Thanksgiving.  On Wednesday night, Ahlers scored a hat trick, adding an assist on a fourth goal. In Friday night's victory, she scored a goal and an assist.

Nationally, Ahlers is tied for ninth in NCAA Division III women's hockey in scoring with five goals and four assists, averaging 1.12 points per game in eight games. She has scored two game-winning goals in the Pipers' five wins.

Ahlers and her teammate Melanie Leveille (So., Appleton, Wis.) are tied for seventh in the nation in goals scored at five.

Another Piper, Alli Miller (Fy., Fairbault, Minn.), has been impressive in her collegiate debut season, as she is currently tied for fifth in Division III hockey in assists (six).

Leveille is eighth in the country in scoring with five goals and five assists, averaging 1.25 points per game. Leveille is joined by Brianna Miller (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) in a tie with several other players for ninth in Division III hockey in assists.

The Pipers return to the ice on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the first of a two-game road series at Concordia College (Moorhead).
