Slow start sinks women's hockey
St. Olaf (9-11, 7-6 in the MIAC) scored five times in the first 20 minutes of the contest - two by Susannah Brokl. The Oles outshot the Pipers (4-12-4, 3-8-2) 13-4 in the first period. The rest of the way, the Pipers kept things even with both teams firing 23 shots on goal. Hamline scored twice in both the second and third periods. First-year Kate Raasch scored two goals and an assist in the game. After an Emily Dusold goal cut the lead to 5-1, Raasch added her first of the game to make the score 5-2. St. Olaf Melissa Sailor scored her second goal of the contest at 16:42 of the second period to increase the lead to 6-2. First-year Erin Eiynck tallied her first goal of the season in the third period and Raasch netted her second of the game before the Oles added an empty net goal for the game's final tally. The two teams will play again Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn. |
