Gustavus completes sweep of women's hockey

The Gusties scored six straight goals to break open a close game and go on to an 8-1 win over Hamline Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn.

The Gusties (8-1, 6-0 in the MIAC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period while outshooting the Pipers (2-6-3, 1-4-1) 17-1 over the first 20 minutes.

But the Pipers were able to cut the lead in half early in the second period when sophomore Sara Mickelson netted her second goal of the series at the 4:43 mark of the period. She was assisted by Emily Dusold.

Gustavus would stretch the lead to 3-1 on a Stefanie Ubl goal at 13:27 of the period.

The Gusties broke the game open in the third period, scoring five goals. Jessica Doig netted a pair of goals in the period.

Hamline starting goaltender Crystal Testolin made 40 saves in the contest. Rachael Young added 10 saves. Gustie Amanda Rosequist stopped eight shots for the win.

Hamline will play at St. Mary's on Jan. 13. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
