Women's hockey skates to 3-3 tie with Cobbers

First-year Kate Raasch scored her seventh goal of the season against Concordia on Saturday night.
Hamline scored three times in the first period and held on for a 3-3 tie against Concordia Saturday night at Drake Arena.

The Pipers (3-7-4, 2-5-2 in the MIAC) outshot the Cobbers (3-7-3, 3-4-2) 32-21 in the game, but the Cobbers countered with three power-play goals in the tie contest.

After a wild first period with five total goals scored, the two teams played a scoreless second period before Concordia netted the equalizer. Kelsey Puffe tied the game at 3-3 with a 5 on 3 goal at :37 of the third period.

Hamline held the lead most of the way, scoring first on Kate Raasch's seventh goal of the season at 5:32. The Cobbers would later tie the game at 1-1 before Mindy Lein added a goal at 11:23.

The Cobbers, who never led in the contest, tied the game again with an Alyssa Dahl power-play goal at 18:00 before Hamline's Marie Gross gave the Pipers a 3-2 lead at intermission with a power-play goal at 19:30 - her fifth goal of the season.

Hamline netminder Crystal Testolin made 18 saves in the tie. Cobber goaltender Jenna Johnson stopped 29 shots.

The two teams will square off again Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
