Women's hockey lose heartbreaker to Bethel

Royal Sandra Felton scored 3:26 into the overtime session to give Bethel a 3-2 win over Hamline Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena.

The Pipers (4-14-5, 3-10-3) fought back from a one-goal deficit after two periods. Down 2-1, sophomore forward Sara Mickelson banged home a Rachel Brobst rebound at the 15:41 of the third period. It was Mickelson's third goal of the season.

The score remained tied until Felton took a wrister on a 2-on-1 break that beat Hamline goaltender Rachael Young topshelf.

After a scoreless first period, Bethel (10-8-3, 9-6-1) claimed a 2-1 lead in the second period. Heidi Govednik scored a pair of power-play goals in the period at 2:51 and 16:43.

First-year Samantha Dowzak scored her fourth goal of the season inbetween Govednik's two goals.

Young finished with 26 saves in the contest. Royal netminder Beth Spurrier stopped 27 saves to earn the win.

The Pipers will play their last home game of the season when they host St. Thomas Thursday night at Drake Arena.
