Women's hockey earns fifth tie of the season

First-year Kate Raasch scored a pair of goals as the Pipers tied for the fifth time of the year, this time to Bethel 3-3 Friday night in Fridley, Minn.

The Pipers (4-13-5, 3-9-3 in the MIAC) held a 3-1 lead early in the third period. After falling behind 1-0 after the first period, Hamline scored twice in the second.

Raasch tied the game with a power-play goal at 7:15. She later added a short-handed goal - her second of the season - at 17:40.

First-year defenseman Samantha Dowzak gave Hamline a 3-1 advantage at 1:42 of the third period.

Bethel (9-8-3, 8-6-1) tied the game on two Lisa Kinney goals later in the third period.

The Pipers were outshot in the contest 44-24, but senior Rachael Young made 41 saves. Beth Spurrier stopped 21 shots for the Royals.

The two teams will complete their series Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
