Women's basketball earns win in conference opener

Sophomore Krystal Tschumperlin led a balanced attack with 13 points as the Pipers defeated St. Olaf 70-57 Tuesday night in Northfield, Minn.

Tschumperlin netted a career-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and 3-of-5 from three-point range. She added five steals and two assists.

The Pipers (2-1, 1-0 in the MIAC) led 54-52 with under seven minutes to play in the contest, but closed the Oles (0-4, 0-1) out with a 16-5 run to finish the game. Six different Pipers scored during the spurt.

Hamline had its best shooting performance of the young season, shooting 42 percent as a team (25-of-60) while holding St. Olaf to 30 percent for the contest (17-of-57) and 23 percent in the second half. The Pipers also outrebounded the Oles 45-34.

Guard Grace Weinreich added 10 points for the Pipers. Britta Schwartzhoff chipped in nine, and Shelby Hyllengren tallied eight points with nine rebounds.

The Oles were paced by Christina Stoermer and Natalie Holm who scored 10 points apiece.

Hamline will host Bethel in their home opener on Saturday. Tip off is set for 3:00 p.m.
