Women's basketball outlasts St. Olaf

The Pipers earned a season series sweep of St. Olaf with a 52-44 victory over the Oles Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.

St. Olaf (2-13, 2-10 in the MIAC) led 12-3 to start the game before Hamline (9-6, 7-5) countered with a 13-2 run capped by sophomore Grace Weinreich's three-point play with 8:33 left in the first half.

The Pipers led by as many as seven before the Oles came bacl to make the score 24-21 at the half.. 

The game remained neck-and-neck until the Pipers went on a 10-1 run in the middle of the second half to give them a lead of eight. However, the Oles quickly responded with a 9-0 run to bring the game to within one. 

With eight minutes remaining, Weinreich hit a three pointer, and senior Ashlee Senser made two free throws to put the Pipers up by six. St. Olaf coule get no closer than four points the rest of the way.

Weinreich led all Pipers in scoring with 15 points, while junior Steph Jurewics and sophomore Krystal Tschumperlin each chipped in 10.  

Three Oles, Kesey Oja, Holly Grismrud, and Mary Kleingarn, led St. Olaf in scoring with eight points a piece.  

The Pipers shot 32.7 percent for the game (16-49), including 43.5 percent in the second half (10-23). The Oles were held to 27.5 percent shooting in the contest (14-51).

The Pipers will continue in the second half of the MIAC season when they travel to Bethel on Monday night.  Game time is set for 7:45 p.m.
