Women's basketball blitzes St. Mary's
Tschumperlin shot 6-of-9 from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc in the lopsided win. The Pipers (4-2, 3-1 in the MIAC) held the Cardinals (3-4, 1-3) to 18.5 percent shooting in the first half (5-27) while shooting 50 percent themselves (17-34) en route to a 47-22 lead. The Pipers continued their hot shooting in the second half shooting an identical 50 percent (16-32). Tschumperlin led three Pipers in double figures. Sophomore Jessica Heinen netted 14 points and nine rebounds. First-year Rochelle Sather scored 13 points - 11 in the first half. St. Mary's was paced by Alyse Coates' 12 points. Jessica Weisbrod added 11 points, and Danielle Dehning added 10 points. Th Pipers shot 20-of-29 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Cardinals 47-34. They also forced the Cardinals into 23 turnovers. Hamline broke open a 3-3 tie with a 16-2 run over eight minutes of play. Sather had six points in the spurt. Junior Shelby Hyllengren netted five of her eight points over the span. Hamline will host Carleton Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. |
