Women's basketball beats Northwestern

The Pipers used a 21-2 run in the second half to break open a close game and go on to a 52-37 win over Northwestern Saturday afternoon in Roseville, Minn.

With the game tied at 27-27 with 13:45 left in the contest, the Pipers (1-1) went on a 21-2 run. Krystal Tschumperlin, Ashlee Senser, and Rochelle Sather all added four points apiece during the run that put the game away.

Tschumperin led the Pipers balanced attack with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Senser added nine points while forward Shelby Hyllengren chipped in eight points with 17 rebounds in the contest.

Hamline held the Eagles (0-4) to 28 percent shooting for the contest (15-53) and just 23 percent in the first half. Northwestern was paced by Luanne Toewes nine points.

The Pipers started the game on a 14-3 spurt after Jess Heinen hit a pair of free throws with 8:38 left in the first half. But the Eagles regrouped and cut the lead to 17-15 at the break.

Hamline shot 33 percent for the game (16-48) and outrebounded the Eagles 50-33.

Hamline will open conference play at St. Olaf on Tuesday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
