Women's basketball makes short work of Knights

Krystal Tschumperlin netted 18 points in the Pipers' win.
Hamline went on a 29-5 run in the first half and went on to an easy 81-45 victory over Martin Luther Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.

The Pipers (5-3) were leading 14-12 with under 12 minutes left in the first half before going on the decisive run. Sophomore Grace Weinreich netted all 11 of her points with two three-pointers during the spurt. Sophomore guard Krystal Tschumperlin also added two three-pointers over the 10-minute span in the first half.

Tschumperlin led all scorers with 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting. She also added seven assists and three rebounds. The Pipers improved to 5-0 when Tschumperlin leads the team in scoring.

Tschumperlin paced four Pipers in double figures. First-year Rochelle Sather tallied 13 points. Sophomore Jess Heinen added 12 points and seven rebounds while Weinreich chipped in 11.

Martin Luther (0-7) was held to 26.9 percent shooting in the contest (14-52). They were led by Abby Hosbach, who came off the bench to score 11 points. Jamie Boldt added nine points for the Knights.

Hamline was 47.5 percent from the field in the game (28-59), including 54.8 percent in the first half (17-31). Hamline shot 8-of-21 from three-point range and was 17-of-21 from the charity stripe.

The Pipers' next game will be after the winter break. They will travel to Augsburg on Jan. 3 for a 7:45 p.m. tip.
