Heinen, Schwartzhoff lead Pipers past Macalester

Sophomores Jess Heinen and Britta Schwartzhoff each totaled 18 points as the Hamline women's basketball team defeated Macalester 65-50 Wednesday night in St. Paul, Minn.

The Pipers (8-6, 6-5 in the MIAC) trailed 11-7 early, but used a 22-4 run to take a 30-21 halftime lead. Heinen scored seven points during the run, capping the spurt with a three-pointer with 2:21 to play in the first half. Schwartzhoff nailed a pair of threes in the same span.

In the second half, Hamline put the game away with a 15-2 run to go up by 21.

Schwartzhoff finished the game 6-of-9 from the floor - 4-of-5 from three-point range - for 18 points. Heinen was 4-of-8 shooting, 9-of-10 from the free throw line for 18 points. Sophomore Krystal Tschumperlin added eight points and six rebounds. Junior Shelby Hyllengren pulled down nine rebounds. 

Hamline shot a scorching 50 percent in the second half (12-24). They converted 38.6 percent of their shots in the game (22-57). The Pipers also knocked down 7-of-18 three-pointers in the contest.

Macalester (5-9, 3-8) was led by Eilse Pagel's 17 points and 11 rebounds. Trina PaStarr netted 15 points for the Scots, who shot 34.5 percent for the game (20-58).

Hamline will host St. Olaf Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
