Women's basketball falls to St. Benedict

St. Benedict outscored the Pipers 17-7 over the last 4:08 of the first half en route to defeating Hamline 83-56 Monday night in St. Joseph, Minn.

Hamline (7-6, 5-5 in the MIAC) trailed 26-21 with a little over four minutes left in the first half, but the Blazers (10-3, 9-1) got seven points from Mindy Schmidt and five from Ariel Tauer to go up 43-28 at the break. Schmidt finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field including 3-of-4 from three-point range.

The Pipers committed 13 turnovers in the first half compared to just three for the Blazers.

In the second half, St. Benedict extended the lead by converting 45.2 percent of their shots (14-31). They finished shooting 44.4 percent as a team (28-63). Hamline shot 36.7 percent for the contest (18-49).

Sophomore Grace Weinreich led the Pipers with 15 points - all on three-pointers. Sophomore Jess Heinen chipped in 13 points while first-year Rochelle Sather added nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Schmidt paced four Blazers in double figures. Jamie Goehner was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and scored 11 points. Darby Noreen and Ellie Boone each collected 10 points.
