Sather's big night lifts women's basketball

First-year Rochelle Sather tallied 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting as the Pipers defeated Augsburg 82-66 Wednesday night in Minneapolis, Minn.

Sather scored 15 points in the first half to give Hamline (6-3, 4-2 in the MIAC) a 10-point halftime lead. The first-year was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc in the contest.

Augsburg (1-7, 1-4) cut the Piper lead to five early in the second half, but Hamline ensued on a 12-2 spurt to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Jess Heinen scored four of her 20 points in the run. She netted 15 points in the second half. Heinen grabbed 10 rebounds.

Junior Steph Jurewicz also reached double figures in scoring for the Pipers with 10 points.

Hamline shot 49.1 percent in the game (27-55) - 52 percent in the second half. Augsburg was 30 percent from the floor (21-70) in the contest.

The Auggies were led by Megan Krumrie's 22 points. Katie LaGrave chipped in 19 points and five assists.

The Pipers will travel to Concordia on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
