Piper women's basketball defeats Knights on the road
![]() ![]() As the Pipers trailed by two points early in the game, Jackie Kelly (So., Blaine, Minn.) sank a three-pointer four minutes after tipoff to give Hamline a first half lead they would carry until two minutes remained in the opening 20 minutes. The Knights would regain a one point lead, only to have a jumper from Heinen give the Pipers back the advantage, which they carried into the locker room at halftime, up 34-30. Halfway through the second half, the Pipers had built up an eight-point lead that the Knight slowly ate at, taking another lead themselves with five minutes of play. However, a three-pointer by Britta Schwartzhoff (Sr., Hayward, Wis.) and 5-for-6 free throw shooting by Heinen in the final four minutes secured the Piper win. Wilkowski also contributed four of her team-high 18 points in that stretch. Heinen went 9-for10 from the free throw line in the game, and she and Wilkowski led the Piper rebounding with eight boards each. The Pipers improved to 3-1, 1-1 MIAC with the non-conference win, while Martin Luther drops to 2-4. Hamline will be home again on Wednesday, December 3, to play MIAC opponent Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. in Hutton Arena. |
