Mary Wilkowski (So., Savannah, Ga.) and Jessica Heinen (Sr., Spicer, Minn.) led Hamline University's women's basketball team with 18 and 17 points, respectively, as the Pipers defeated Martin Luther College on the road, 74-66.

As the Pipers trailed by two points early in the game, Jackie Kelly (So., Blaine, Minn.) sank a three-pointer four minutes after tipoff to give Hamline a first half lead they would carry until two minutes remained in the opening 20 minutes.

The Knights would regain a one point lead, only to have a jumper from Heinen give the Pipers back the advantage, which they carried into the locker room at halftime, up 34-30.

Halfway through the second half, the Pipers had built up an eight-point lead that the Knight slowly ate at, taking another lead themselves with five minutes of play. However, a three-pointer by Britta Schwartzhoff (Sr., Hayward, Wis.) and 5-for-6 free throw shooting by Heinen in the final four minutes secured the Piper win.

Wilkowski also contributed four of her team-high 18 points in that stretch.

Heinen went 9-for10 from the free throw line in the game, and she and Wilkowski led the Piper rebounding with eight boards each.

The Pipers improved to 3-1, 1-1 MIAC with the non-conference win, while Martin Luther drops to 2-4.

Hamline will be home again on Wednesday, December 3, to play MIAC opponent Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. in Hutton Arena.
