Heinen's 28 points lift Pipers to win over Wildcats

Jessica Heinen (Jr., Spicer, Minn.) scored 28 points to lead the Hamline University women's basketball team to a 78-73 win at home over the College of St. Catherine.

TJessica Heinenhe Pipers started off the game by jumping out to an 8-2 advantage in the opening two minutes, but St. Catherine clawed back, taking the lead and holding it until the Pipers took it back with under four minutes to play in the opening 20 minutes.

As the final minute of the first half was played, Heinen scored three of her points (and three of her 15 that came from outside the arc) to put the Pipers up by seven at halftime (46-39).

In the first half, both the Pipers shot just under 94% from the free throw line.

Hamline dominated for most of the the second half, allowing the Wildcats to close to within two points with five minutes to play, but turning it back into a two-possession lead as Heinen drained two free throws with 3:50 to play. Heinen shot 11-for-12 from the free throw line during the game, in addition to going 5-for-6 from outside the arc and 6-for-10 from the floor.

Heinen also led the Pipers with eight rebounds. Britta Schwartzhoff (Jr., Hayward, Wis.) had 12 points, and Mary Wilkowski (Fy., Savannah, Ga.) added 10. Tiana Wilkinson (So., Saint Louis Park, Minn.) added six boards for Hamline.

The Pipers are now 11-9, 8-9 MIAC. They return to Hutton Arena to take on Saint Mary's on Monday, February 11 at 5:45 p.m. to make up a game previously cancelled due to bad weather.
