The Piper women's basketball team received two 20-point performances in a 70-54 MIAC opening night win over St. Olaf on the road.

Jessica Heinen (Jr., Spicer, Minn.) scored 21 points and had seven rebounds, while Rochelle Sather (So., Andover, Minn.) added 20 in helping the Pipers win on the road on Tuesday night. The Pipers also received a strong performance from first-year Jackie Kelly (Blaine, Minn.), who had nine points in the game.

With Hamline down by two points early in the game, Grace Weinreich (Jr., Wahkon, Minn.) was fouled while shooting a successful jumper and then made the ensuing free throw to put the Pipers up 10-9 just over six minutes into the game. It was an advantage that the Pipers held for the remainder of the game over the Oles.

Hamline came out of the locker room at halftime with a 29-21 lead, and saw the Oles narrow the lead to three points at 33-30 before putting the game out of reach in the last ten minutes.

Sather shot 70 percent from the floor while Heinen sunk eight of 12 attempts from the floor. As a team, Hamline made over 42 percent of their attempts, while St. Olaf shot under 30 percent. Hamline also took advantage of free throw opportunities, shooting 91 percent from the line, compared to the Oles' 80 percent free throw percentage.

The Pipers are now at 2-0, 1-0 MIAC. The Oles fell to 1-3, 0-1 MIAC. Hamline returns to the court on Saturday, December 1, when they travel north on Snelling Avenue to Bethel University for a 1:00 p.m. game.
