The Hamline University women's basketball team defeated Macalester College, 63-48, to clinch the sixth and final spot in the MIAC playoffs on Saturday.

The playoff appearance marks the second in three season for Hamline's women's basketball team. The Pipers also mark the third Hamline University winter team to clinch a post-season berth for the 2007-08 championship season.

The Pipers headed into the playoffs by dominating from the tipoff, not surrendering control to Macalester but for a few very brief one-point leads.

Hamline led by just one point at 30-29 heading into the lockerroom at halftime, but quickly took over in the final 20 minutes, ultimately winning by 15 points.

Hamline was led by Mary Wilkowski's 14 points, while Rochelle Sather and Britta Schwarthoff each tallied 13 points.

Wilkowski was also the team's leading rebounder with eight.

The now 13-12, 10-12 MIAC Pipers travel to Gustavus on Monday, February 25 for a 7:30 p.m. game to open the 2008 MIAC playoffs.
