Sather tallies 24 points in Piper win

Rochelle Sather (So., Andover, Minn.) scored 24 points and added five rebounds in leading the Hamline University women's basketball team to a 91-72 win at Augsburg on Saturday.

After trailing by two points (44-42) at halftime, the Pipers came on strong in the final 20 minutes, shooting over 94% from the free throw line and going 5-of-13 from outside the arc while forcing Augsburg to shoot 0-9 from three-point land.

Krystal Tschumperlin (Jr., Watkins, Minn.) scored three of her eight points in giving Hamline a 45-44 lead 30 seconds into the second half. Augsburg took back the advantage, and held a three-point lead until Tschumperlin sank another three-pointer at 14:10 for the sixth tie of the game.

Sather than made a three-pointer of her own at 13:27 to give Hamline the lead, and the Pipers held the advantage for the rest of the game.

The Pipers out-rebounded the Auggies 52-33, with Jessica Heinen (Jr., Spicer, Minn.) leading Hamline with eight boards, while Grace Weinreich (Jr., Wahkon, Minn.) had seven rebounds. Heinen had 16 points, while Britta Schwartzhoff (Jr., Hayward, Wis.) was the fourth Piper in double-digits with 12 points.

The Pipers improved to 10-8, 7-8 MIAC and sixth place in the conference standings, while the Auggies fell to 5-13, 3-12 MIAC. Hamline returns to Hutton Arena to host Saint Mary's at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, February 4.
