Senior forward Laurisa Ewert scored 20 points and first-year Britta Schwartzhoff netted 16 off the bench as Hamline beat St. Thomas for the second time this season 69-66 Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.

Before the 2005-06 season, the Pipers (8-9, 5-8 in the MIAC) had won a total of three games against the Tommies (9-8, 6-6) in their 27-year series, but now the Pipers have won two in a row.

Trailing 66-65 late in the second half, Ewert gave the Pipers the lead with a bucket with 1:12 left in the game. After a Hamline defensive stop, Schwartzhoff hit a pair of free throws to ice the game. The Tommies would have three attempts inside the last 11 seconds to tie the game, but could not hit.

St. Thomas held a 33-27 halftime lead, but Schwartzhoff helped erase the cushion, scoring 13 of her points in the second half.  She was 4 of 5 from the floor in the final 20 minutes, including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc.

For the game, Schwartzhoff was 5 of 6 shooting, 4 of 4 from three.

Ewert finished 6 of 10 shooting. She also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and dished out three assists. Senior guard Carolyn Korchik added 10 points.

Hamline shot 37 percent for the game (22-60), but did most of their damage from three-point range, hitting 10 of 24 attempts. Korchik and first-year Jessica Heinen each added a pair of threes.

Tommy Erica Opdahl scored 20 points. Chelsea Wirtz added 16, and Jessica Katch chipped in 12.

St. Thomas shot 43 percent for the game (26-60), but Hamline made up the difference, going 15 of 16 from the free throw line.

Hamline will travel to St. Olaf on Wednesday. Tip off in Northfield, Minn. is set for 7:30 p.m.
