Junior Kelly Lines led four players in double figures with 14 as the Pipers defeated St. Mary's 53-49 Wednesday night in Winona, Minn.

Lines went 5 of 8 from the floor, including a big basket with 33 seconds left in the game that gave the Pipers a 50-47 advantage. Senior Laurisa Ewert added 13 points and 12 rebounds. First-year Jessica Heinen had 12 points while senior Carolyn Korchik added 10.

The Pipers (6-5, 3-4 in the MIAC) held a five point lead with 1:58 to go in the game, but saw the lead shrink to 50-49 after a Jessica Weisbrod layup with 18 seconds left. Heinen made one free throw on the next possession to ice the win.

Ashley Luehman missed on a try to tie the game in the closing seconds, and Ewert grabbed the rebound to eventually end the game.

Weisbrod netted a game-high 15 points for the Cardinals (5-6, 2-5). Calla Swenson and Luehman had 10 points apiece.

Both team shot under 40 percent in the contest. St. Mary's was held to 38 percent shooting (15-48) while the Pipers shot at a 35 percent clip (18-51). The Pipers outrebounded the Cardinals 41-32 and were 12 of 18 from the free throw line.

The Pipers will travel to St. Benedict on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
