Women's basketball beats UW-River Falls in season opener
Korchik, who entered the season as the Pipers' seventh leading scorer in school history, netted 14 points on 4 of 13 shooting from the floor. She also added four assists and four steals. Both teams struggled in the early going as the Pipers (1-0) built a 26-21 lead. Hamline shot 25 percent from the floor (8-32), but made 9 of 10 free throws to take the lead. Hamline took command of the game with a 12-3 run to start the second half. Junior guard Kelly Lines scored five of her seven points during the run while senior forward Laurisa Ewert added four points during the spurt that gave Hamline a 38-24 lead. The lead would grow to as many as 17 before the Falcons (1-2) whittled it down to 58-51 with 4:17 left in the game. Krista Cordes led the Falcons with 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting. Miranda Biteler chipped in 10 points. Traci Reimann had eight points and eight rebounds. First-year guard Britta Schwartzhoff scored 12 points off the bench for Hamline. Junior Ashlee Senser added 10 points. Lines, Ewert, and first-tear Jessica Heinen each grabbed eight rebounds. The Pipers will next at Gustavus on Nov. 30. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m. |
