Women's basketball cruises past Nichols

Senior Carolyn Korchik scored a game-high 20 points to lead Hamline to an easy 27-point win over Nichols 82-55 Wednesday afternoon at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Korchik went 6 of 11 from the field, including 4 of 7 from three-point range in the contest. She also grabbed seven rebounds and added four steals.

Korchik scored eight points in the first 7:30 of the game as the Pipers (4-3) claimed a 20-6 advantage. Nichols (2-5) would get no closer than 11 points the remainder of the contest.

After the first 20 minutes of play, Hamline shot 58 percent from the field (18-31) to take a 47-24 lead. The Pipers were 53 percent from the floor for the game (30-57), including 11 of 20 from three-point range.

Junior Kelly Lines totaled 14 points with three treys for the Pipers. First-year Britta Schwartzhoff netted nine points while junior Ashlee Senser added eight. Senior Laurisa Ewert had seven boards.

Heather Clarke led Nichols with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting.

The Pipers will play Carroll College Thursday morning in Daytona Beach, Fla. Tip off is set for 11:00 a.m.
