Women's basketball takes care of Macalester

The Pipers held Macalester to 16 percent shooting from the field to easily earn a 61-32 win over the Scots Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.

Hamline (10-10) opened up the contest with 23-5 run over the first 15:50. Senior guard Carolyn Korchik scored six points during the spurt, including the last two buckets. Korchik scored a game-high 18 points in the contest on 8 of 15 shooting from the field.

Meanwhile, the Piper defense throttled the Macalester offense. The Scots (2-18) shot just 4 of 19 from the field in the first half (4-21) and 3 of 24 in the second half (13 percent).

Eleven different Pipers scored in the contest. Senior Laurisa Ewert scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. First-year Krystal Tschumperlin added seven points and five rebounds. Sophomore Shelby Hyllengren grabbed eight boards in the contest.

The Scots were paced by Elise Pagel's 12 points and 10 rebounds. Callie PaStarr had eight points.

The Pipers shot 36 percent for the game (24-67) and were 7 of 27 from beyond the arc. They outrebounded the Scots 52-40.

The Pipers will return to conference action Monday night when they host Augsburg. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
