![]() The Pipers (1-1, 0-1 in the MIAC) led 46-42 with 6:40 left in the game when guard Carolyn Korchik scored her only points of the contest in a layup. The Gusties (3-1, 1-0) answered with 10 straight - five coming from Bri Monahan, who totaled 21 points for Gustavus. Ewert was 10 of 18 from the field for the Pipers. She also added three steals. Junior Ashlee Senser added 10 points while first-year Jessica Heinen had 13 rebounds. Hamline led the first 17 minutes of the first half until an 8-0 spurt gave the Gusties a 23-21 halftime lead. The Pipers held Gustavus to just 27 percent shooting (7-26) in the first 20 minutes, but the Gusties made 7 of 7 free throw attempts for the lead. Hamline shot 35 percent (9-26) in the first half. For the game, Hamline was 40 percent from the floor while the Gusties were just 34 percent. Hamline was forced into 33 turnovers, and Gustavus was 16 of 21 from the charity stripe. Hamline went 9 of 18 from the line after making 23 of 28 attempts in their season-opening win versus UW-River Falls. Monahan was 8 of 18 from the floor for the Gusties. Guard Jess Vadnais added 17 points on 5 of 13 shooting. The Pipers will next play at Carleton on Saturday. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m. |
