First-half surge propels women's basketball
Seven different Pipers scored during the spurt for Hamline (3-3). Sophomore Allison Bratsch and senior Carolyn Korchik each had five points during the run while Ashlee Senser and Jessica Heinen each added four points. The Pipers would eventually take a 50-17 lead into the break after shooting 46 percent from the floor (16-35). Hamline held the Storm (3-4) to 19 percent in the first half (5-26). Korchik finished the contest with a game-high 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field. Senior Laurisa Ewert tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Eleven Pipers scored in the contest with Britta Schwartzhoff adding nine points. Heinen and Bratsch each chipped in eight points. Junior Megan Haugen dished out five of Hamline's 21 assists. Storm guard Jill Stumbo led the team with 13 points, but was 5 of 19 from the field. Crown shot just 28 percent for the game (15-53). The Pipers were 43 percent from the floor (28-65) and outrebounded the Storm 49-26. Hamline will have an abbreviated winter break and will face Nicholls College at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. Game time of Dec. 28 is 3:00 p.m.
