Piper volleyball earns sweep number two against St. Kate's![]()
![]() ![]() Hamline took the lead early in game one, and dominated with 19 kills to 10 from St. Catherine, taking the opener 30-20. The Pipers also jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the second game, Piper attacking and service errors brought the game to within a point at 5-4. The Wildcats did tie the game at several points, and even had a two-point lead at 18-16, but fell 32-30 as sophomore Tasha Simmons (Eagan, Minn.) finished the game with two kills. Game three saw the Wildcats stay within two points of the Pipers for most of the game, tying it up at 27-27, at which point a St. Catherine attacking error gave Hamline the 28-27 advantage. First-year Jackie Kelly's (Blaine, Minn.) service ace, and a final fill from Simmons ended the game 30-27, and the match, in favor of Hamline. Simmons had 19 kills in the match, and was joined in the front row attack by 13 kills from senior Shelby Hyllengren (Cannon Falls, Minn.) and junior Amanda Booth (Champlin, Minn.). Junior Brittany Roemhild (Barron, Wis.) added eight. Defensively, Simmons had 16 digs, first-year Heidi Larsen (Andover, Minn.) added 15, and first-years Amanda Lindeman (LeSuer, Minn) and Kelly contributed 11 and eight respectively. The Pipers will host St. Thomas on Saturday, October 20 at 3:00 in Hutton Arena. |
