Piper volleyball defeated in three by St. Benedict

The Hamline University volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road at St. Benedict on Wednesday, 30-20, 30-14, 30-25. Sophomore Tasha Simmons (Eagan, Minn.) led the Pipers with 14 kills.

St. Benedict started fast in game one, taking the lead from the first point and never giving it up. In game two, Hamline started off fast and jumped to a 3-1 lead, but the Blazers capitalized on several attaching errors by the Pipers to take back control of the game.

Game three showed more parity, with Hamline and St. Benedict seeing an even score on the board frequently in the game. However, the closest the Pipers could bring the game was 25-26, when the Blazers reeled off two kills, an ace and accepted a Piper error to close out the match.

With the loss, the Pipers fall to 11-6 (2-3 MIAC). Hamline will be in action at home this weekend as the host of the eight-team MIAC/IIAC Border Battle tournament at Hutton Arena. The Pipers will play Cornell at 2:00 p.m. and Wartburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, they will take on Dubuque at 9:00 a.m., followed by Loras at 1:00 p.m. For a complete tournament schedule, click here.
