Volleyball evens MIAC record with sweep of Augsburg![]() ![]()
Hamline took the lead in game one on the first point, ran off the first four points, and never looked back in the game. Junior Emily Amici (Whitewater, Wis.), junior Amanda Booth (Champlin, Minn.) and sophomore Tasha Simmons (Eagan, Minn.) helped the Pipers take control early, posting four, four and five kills, respectively, in the opening game. Senior Sara Burns (LeSuer, Minn) had 12 digs on defense to lead the Pipers in game one. The Auggies fired back in game two with aggressive play, and accumulated an 18-12 lead. But the Pipers regrouped, with senior Shelby Hyllengren (Cannon Falls, Minn.) joining the attack, adding five kills - four of which came during the comeback. The final game saw even play until late in the game, when at 26-26 the Pipers pulled ahead on an Augburg error and stayed ahead, ending the match on a kill by Simmons. Simmons led the Pipers with 16 kills and 23 digs, while Booth had 13 kills and Hyllengren added 12. First-year Heidi Larseon led the Piper defense with 25 digs. Hamline will travel to St. Benedict on Wednesday, October 3 for a 7:00 MIAC contest. |
