Piper volleyball produces three-game sweep of Martin Luther College

The Piper volleyball team defeated Martin Luther College on the road on Wednesday, 3-0, to bring their record to 4-1-0 on the year.

In the first game of the match, Hamline edged the Knights 30-28, then moved on to take the second and third games by scores of 30-23 each time.

The Pipers were led by Tasha Simmons' 14 kills in the match. Emily Amici and Shelby Hyllengren each contributed 7 kills, while Amanda Booth's 6 kills added to the offense.

On defense for the Pipers, Amici and Simmons were joined by Jenny Nichols with 10 or more digs. Jenni Burns and Sarah Burns each posted seven digs in the match.

The Pipers will be competing this weekend in the St. Catherine's Tournament. On Friday they face off against St. Olaf College at 3:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. match against Grinnell College. On Saturday, head coach Lynette Jones will compete against her daughter for the first time when the Pipers take on Bethany Lutheran at 9:00 a.m. They will conclude the tournament against St. Catherine at 11:00 a.m. All matches will be considered non-conference contests.
