Piper volleyball takes two in first day at Eau Claire

The Hamline University volleyball team won their first two matches under first-year head coach Lynette Jones as they defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the University of Minnesota-Morris in Eau Claire on Friday.

In the first match at 5:30 p.m., the Pipers defeated River Falls 3-1 (31-29, 23-30, 27-30, 21-30). Senior Shelby Hyllengren (Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the Piper offense with 20 kills, while 2006 MIAC Rookie of the Year Tasha Simmons (Eagan, MN) followed up with 15 kills in the debut of her sophomore season.

In the late game, at 7:30 p.m., Hamline swept Morris 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-15). The two leaders from game one changed leads in kills, with Simmons at the top of the list for the Pipers with 14, while Hyllengren contributed 11.

The Pipers remain in Wisconsin to take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., and then tournament host University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 2:00 p.m. For complete tournament information, visit the tournament home page here.
