Piper volleyball splits at Gustavus Triangular
![]() Against Buena Vista, the Pipers were led by sophomore Tasha Simmons' (Eagan, Minn.) 23 kills, followed by 18 from senior Shelby Hyllengren (Cannon Falls, Minn.) and 11 from junior Emily Amici (Whitewater, Wis.). The Pipers defended as a team against Buena Visita, with Simmons alongside first-years Jackie Kelly (Blaine, Minn.) and Heidi Larsen (Andover, Minn.) contributing 20-plus digs each. Senior Sara Burns (LeSuer, Minn.) added 18 digs of her own. After getting down 2-1 to Northwestern in the second match of the day, the Pipers rallied to take the fourth game and even the match before falling in a closely contested fifth game. In the Northwestern match, Simmons once again led the Pipers with 24 kills, while Hyllengren added 13 and junior Amanda Booth (Champlin, Minn.) had 14. Larsen had 32 digs, Simmons had 25, and Booth, Kelly and first-year Amanda Lindeman (LeSuer, Minn.) all added 10 or more digs to keep the Pipers in the match. Hamline's record is now 10-4 (1-1 MIAC). The Pipers return to MIAC action on Wednesday when they travel to Northfield to take on Carleton College at 7:00 p.m.
