Volleyball splits contests at UW-Eau Claire Labor Day Classic

The Hamline volleyball team split a pair of matches to open the season at the UW-Eau Claire Labor Day Classic Friday in Eau Claire, Wis.

The Pipers (1-1) opened the season with an easy three-game 30-11, 30-25, 30-16 victory over Alverno College.

Junior Shelby Hyllengren had 15 kills in the contest while senior Dana Luiken added eight. Junior setter Angie Asmus dished out 24 assists.

Hamline hit 16 kills in game one with only one error for a hitting percentage of .652 as a team. The Pipers hit .312 as a team in the match.

In match two, the Pipers fell to host Eau Claire, 30-20, 30-19, 30-13. The Pipers posted just 18 kills for the match. Hyllengren led the way with four for the Pipers.

The Pipers will play Crown College and Buena Vista on Saturday.
