Volleyball defeats St. Olaf in four games

Junior outside hitter Shelby Hyllengren had a team-high 23 as the Pipers defeated St. Olaf 31-29, 26-30, 30-19, 30-28 Wednesday night in Northfield, Minn.

Hyllengren had 23 kills in 64 attempts in the match. The Pipers (7-4, 1-1 in the MIAC) also got 14 kills from senior Dana Luiken, who had a hitting percentage of .370 in the contest.

It is the second consecutive victory for the Pipers over the Oles. Hamline won a five-game match with St. Olaf last season at Hutton Arena.

After splitting the first two games, the Pipers took control of game three, hitting 15 kills with four errors for a hitting percentage of .333.

Sophomore Amanda Booth had nine kills while sophomore Emily Amici added eight kills.

The Pipers had a 77-63 advantage in digs in the contest led by senior Jenna Witt's 24. Setter Jenny Nichols had 16 digs to go along with 54 assists. Amici had 13 digs, and Sara Burns added 10.

The Oles (5-6, 1-1) were led by Andrea Otteman's 20 kills.

The Pipers will travel to Bethel Friday night. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
