Volleyball rips North Central in three games

The Pipers posted a hitting percentage of .347 as a team as Hamline defeated North Central 30-8, 30-17, 30-23 Thursday night at Hutton Arena.

Hamline (13-6) jumped on North Central (7-19) early, taking a commanding 18-2 lead out of the gates. First-year Tasha Simmons and senior Dana Luiken each had six kills in the game. The Pipers also held North Central to two kills and a -.086 hitting percentage in game one.

In game two, Hamline scored 11 of the last 14 points. Junior Shelby Hyllengren had three kills during the spurt.

Game three was more of the same as the team tallied 11 of the final 15 points of the match. Five different Pipers added kills in the match-clinching run.

Luiken finished the match with 14 kills to lead the Pipers. Simmons added 13 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Amanda Booth had 12 kills, and junior Shelby Hyllengren had 11.

Setter Jenny Nichols dished out 42 assists. Senior Jenna Witt led the defense with 23 digs.

North Central (7-19) was led by Amanda Matson with seven kills.

Hamline held a 58-22 advantage on kills on the night. The Pipers also added eight blocks to the Rams zero.

The Pipers will host Carleton Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
