Volleyball splits pair of matches at triangular

Hamline beat Luther in four game before falling to Viterbo in three games at the Hamline Triangular hosted Saturday at Hutton Arena.

Behind 21 kills from first-year Tasha Simmons, the Pipers (17-8) defeated Luther 30-17, 30-18, 23-30, 30-16. Simmons hit .383 in the contest with the 21 kills and three errors on 47 attempts. She also had 16 digs in the match.

Sophomore Amanda Booth added 14 kills and eight blocks while Shelby Hyllengren added 13 kills.

The Pipers had 16 service aces in the match - seven by Jenna Witt, who also added 19 digs.

Luther was paced by Amanda Lincoln's 18 kills. Abby Lahr added 14 kills for the Norse.

The Pipers followed the victory by dropping a 30-20, 31-29, 30-24 decision to Viterbo.

V-hawk Andrea Hughes led Viterbo with 14 kills. Tiare Hurst added nine kills.

The Pipers were led by Simmons and Booth, who each added 11 kills. Hyllengren had nine kills. Witt led the defense with 17 digs with Tina Cherland adding 16.

The Pipers will close out the regular season when they travel to Augsburg Wednesday night. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
