Gustavus sweeps volleyball to open MIAC season
![]() Kron totaled 10 kills in the 30-25, 30-19, 30-25 win for the Gusties (8-3, 1-0 in the MIAC). Four other players totaled nine kills for Gustavus. Hamline (6-4, 0-1) was led by senior middle Dana Luiken with a game-high 13 kills. Junior Shelby Hyllengren added nine kills. In game one, the Pipers trailed by a count of 7-6 before the Gusties reeled off nine of 10 points to go up 16-7. Jennifer Thelemann had two of her nine kills during the run. The Pipers would take leads of 10-2 and 5-0 in games two and three, respectively, but they couldn't finish off the Gusties. In game two, Gustavus scored eight of nine points after falling behind to cut the Hamline lead to 11-10. They would later overtake the Pipers to win the game. In game three, the Pipers won the first five points on the serve of Amanda Booth, but the Gusties rallied to take the next six points to get back into the game. Hamline setter Angie Asmus had 30 assists in the match. Counterpart Bridget Burtzel dished out 33 assists. Libero Jenna Witt led the Hamline defense with 14 digs. The Pipers will play St. Olaf next Wednesday. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. |
