After taking the first game 36-34, the Pipers dropped the next three games 30-19, 30-23, 30-27 to Carleton Wednesday night at Hutton Arena.

The Pipers (13-7, 4-4 in the MIAC) served for game one on four occasions before finally putting the Knights (10-9, 4-3) away. First-year Tasha Simmons and junior Amanda Booth blocked a Carleton attack before a Knight ball-handling error gave the game to the Pipers.

But Carleton came out on fire in game two, taking a 7-1 lead and then cruising to a 30-19 win.

The Knights jumped out again in game two, but the Pipers rallied to tie the game at 16-16. Carleton regained control of the game taking seven of the next eight points. Libero Laura Barsness finished the spurt with two aces.

The Knights finished the match with 15 aces on the night.

In game four, the Pipers held a brief 26-25 lead, but the Knights took the next three points and ended the match with a Sarah Kunelius kill - one of her 17 kills on the evening.

Danielle Hargreaves led the Knights with 20 kills. Annie Eckhoff added 11 kills.

Senior Dana Luiken paced Hamline with 17 kills. Junior Shelby Hyllengren added 13, and Simmons had 10.

Setter Heather La Chapelle dished out 33 assists for Carleton. Backup Rachel Popielarz had 22 assists. Piper setter Jenny Nichols had 49 assists in the contest.

Hamline will host St. Catherine Friday night at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
