Tapia-Rodriguez earns All-America honorable mention status at NCAA Championships

Sophomore swimmer Jonathan Tapia-Rodriguez completed his first NCAA Championships with a 16th place finish in the 200-yard butterfly Saturday at the University of Houston.

Tapia-Rodriguez, a Quito, Ecuador native and graduate of the Nacel International School, qualified for the consolation finals with the 14th fastest time in the preliminaries. Tapia-Rodriguez finished the preliminaries in a time of 1:53.01.

He later finished eighth in the consolation finals with a time of 1:53.78 to take 16th overall.

The top eight competitors in an individual event earn All-America status. Places ninth-16th receive honorable mention accolades.

Tapia-Rodriguez also placed 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly and 46th in the 200-yard individual medley at the championships.
