Swimming relays compete well at Minnesota Challenge Invitational

Piper relays team had solid showings at the Minnesota Challenge Invitational held Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

Competing against Div. I opponent Minnesota and Div. II opponents North Dakota, Minnesota State, South Dakata, South Dakota State, MSU-Moorhead as well as Div. III opponents, the Hamline women's 200-yard freestyle relay team finished seventh in a time of 1:45.45. The team of Renee Punyko, Lindsey Swanson, Becky Taylor, and Dana Ketcher posted the fastest Div. III time of the meet.

On the men's side, the Pipers' 400-yard medley relay team of Jake Burgess, Will Khoury-Hanold, Jonathan Tapia-Rodriguez, and Ryan Beckman was second with a time of 3:42.31.

Individually, Ketcher was 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25:48. It was the fastest Div. III time as four North Dakota and two Minnesota athletes finished in front of her.

Tapia-Rodriguez was 15th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.37. Gophers took the top eight spots in the event.

The Minnesota Challenge Invitational continues Saturday at noon.
