Swimming and diving compete at St. Catherine

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to Carleton while the women handled host St. Catherine Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

The Piper women (3-2 in dual meets this season) defeated the Wildcats 78-27, but lost 84-27 to Carleton. The men lost by a narrow 62-51 margin to the Knights.

On the women's side, diver Natalie Netzel won in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. She posted a score of 168.9 in the 1-meter dive and a total of 183.65 in the 3-meter.

Freestyle sprinter Dana Ketcher won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.72. She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle.

For the men, both Teddy Paterson and Jake Burgess were three-time winners on the evening. Paterson won both distance freestyle events, taking the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:54.39 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.0. Burgess on the two sprint freestyle events, taking the 50-yard freestyle (22.29) and 100-yard freestyle (49.27).

The duo teammed with Jonathan Tapia-Rodriguez and Ryan Beckman to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Tapia also won the 200-yard backstroke.

The women will compete at Concordia on Saturday. Meet time is 2:00 p.m.
