Women's swimmers defeat St. Catherine

Competing in their final home dual meet of the season, the Hamline women's swimming team defeated St. Catherine 116-76 Friday night at the Bush Student Center Swimming Pool.

The Pipers won nine of the 12 scored events in the meet to earn the victory.

Junior Dana Ketcher, first-year Renee Punyko, and first-year Becky Taylor all won two individual events.

Ketcher won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.3. She also added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:39.64.

Punyko took the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:21.51. She also grabbed the 100-yard freestyle in 56.74. She also teammed up with Taylor VanDorp, Lindsey Swanson, and Kelsey Easter to win the 200-yard medley relay.

Taylor earned victories in both the 1000-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

VanDorp (50-yard freestyle) and diver Aryn Arnold also won individual events for the Pipers.

The Hamline men's swimming and diving team will compete Saturday at the St. John's Invitational. The women's team is back in action next Friday when both teams travel to St. Thomas.
