Swimming and diving teams split versus St. Thomas

The Hamline men's swimming and diving teams used sweeps in both diving events to come away with a 118-117 dual meet win over St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at the Bush Student Center Swimming Pool. The Hamline women lost to the Tommies 139-103.

The Piper men won only five of 13 events in the dual meet, but the team was able to make up for it by taking the top three spots in the one and three-meter dives.

Sophomore Julian Borgia and Jake Kruger took first and second, respectively. Borgia scored a 237.55 in the one-meter event and a 231.7 in the three-meter dive.

First-year Jonathan Tapia was first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.30. First-year Jake Burgess was first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.24) while Ryan Beckman was first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.07).

On the women's side, sophomore Aly Janzen won a pair of individual events. She took both the 1000-yard freestyle (11:35.23) and 200-yard freestyle (2:05.64).

Hamline won four of the 13 events. Sophomore Dana Ketcher was first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.75), and sophomore Tami Klenke took the one-meter dive (193.70).

The Pipers will next compete in the MIAC Championships held Feb. 16-18.
