Men's swimming and diving beats St. Mary's, Macalester

The Hamline men's swimming and diving team easily handled Macalester and St. Mary's in dual meets Saturday afternoon at the Bush Student Center Swimming Pool.

The Pipers downed Macalester 62-44 while beating St. Mary's 87-16.

Hamline won eight of 13 events between the three schools.

Sophomore Julian Borgia won both diving events, taking the 1-meter dive with 232.3 points and the 3-meter dive with a score of 215.95.

First-year Jake Burgess was first in both the 1000-yard freestyle (11:19.03) and 100-yard freestyle (49.33). His 49.33 in the 100-yard freestyle is about two seconds from school record pace.

John Burgess won the 50-yard freestyle while first Jonathan Tapia took the 200-yard freestyle. Andrew Jagger was tops in the 100-yard butterfly.

The team of Tapia, Ryan Beckman, and both Burgesses also won the 400-yard freestyle relay event.

Hamline will next compete at UW-River Falls on Friday.  Meet time is set for 6:00 p.m.
